Doubtless, you are aware of the destructive weather that hit the Portage/Kalamazoo community, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Since then, our community has mobilized in an inspiring show of support to assist the over 100 Portage families who were displaced during the tornadoes.

However, there is still more work to be done. The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo is asking for your help in collecting items to support those who have had their lives and livelihoods turned upside down.

We are seeking assistance in collecting the following items (updated 5/16):
  • Disposable/paper products:
    • Ziplock bags
    • Paper plates
    • Disposable cutlerly
    • Paper towels
    • Paper cups/bowls
    • Garbage bags
    • Etc.
  • Pet products (cats AND dogs primarily):
    • Food
    • Toys
    • Litter
    • Pet-related cleaning products
  • First-aid supplies:
    • Unopened over-the-counter medicines
    • Bandaids
    • Personal protection equipment
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Etc.

Donations can be dropped off at the Maple and Portage Ys, as well as Prime Time sites. Please look for a donation box (will be near the Member Services Desks at the Ys), where you can leave any items if you have the means. If you have been impacted by the tornadoes, please feel free to take what you need from the boxes.

If you would like to donate, but are unable to drop items off, please consider utilizing our Amazon Wishlist. Any items purchased off the list will be delivered to the Y and distributed to community members in need.
