Who looks to music to help them move, stay motivated, and inspire them to action? This summer at the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, we're "rolling" out ROCK THE Y 2023 Tour to our members to EXPLORE new stuff at the Y, GROOVE to their favorite tunes, CHALLENGE them to move outside their comfort zone, and WIN cool stuff related to the Y experience and music items including tickets to live performance throughout the community! Starts Monday, July 10, at noon!
PREMISE:
Rise through the music charts by completing all three activity cards to earn our novelty ROCK THE Y t-shirt! (It's super cool!) Each level is progressively more challenging and when completed, each one serves as an entry for the drawing at the end of the program. Finish Gold, Platinum, and Diamond level activity cards (see what we did there?!) for the chance to win prizes and tickets to various live-performance venues!
HOW TO START:
It’s easy and it’s fun!
1) Register for the ROCK THE Y program.
2) There are three levels: Pick up your “tour ticket” Level One to complete 10 of the 20 challenges. Drop your completed “tour ticket” into the receptacle at the Welcome Center or Fitness Desk. Make sure to complete the contact information on the back. Earn your Gold Record and post it on the MUSIC CHART with your name and the title of one of your favorite workout / motivational songs.
3) Repeat for Level Two, which is Platinum Level
4) Repeat for Level Three, which is Diamond Level.
5) When you have completed the third “tour ticket”/activity card, take it to the Welcome Center to collect your novelty t-shirt! (T-shirts will be available after 7/21.)
Tour tickets/activity cards will be available at the Welcome Desk and at the Fitness Desk. Participation is based on the honor system.

*Memories and Music! is a group experience led by Caitlyn Bodine, Board-Certified Music Therapist, for a fun hour of interaction through music for adults. Caitlin will lead us in singing old songs together with her acoustic guitar, letting the music move us. What stories and memories will the songs stir? Singing along will be enthusiastically encouraged but not required. Music selection will be guided by the interests of the group -- Caitlyn has a huge repertoire -- so let's not be shy to make suggestions of our favorites. Caitlyn's expertise is in using music to help address social and emotional wellness of older adults as we age, particularly those with dementia or memory loss. Light refreshments will be available 15 minutes prior to the start time. For the Maple event, if the weather allows, we will hold the sing-along in the courtyard. Seating will be available, but bring a comfy lawn chair if you have one. Open to all members.
