Our Early Childhood Education program promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of your child and responds to the needs of the entire family. Our preschools are inclusive and follow the Opening the World of Learning (OWL) curriculum, which incorporates all domains of learning, including those listed above as well as language and communication. We offer a hands-on learning environment that encompasses both fine and gross motor skills. The preschools offer special programs including tennis and swim lessons (based on age and enrollment status), monthly field trips, indoor/outdoor hands-on community gardening/greenhouse, making of healthy snacks, and take home family activities.
The Maple Preschool also offers full-time transitional care for those children ages 2-3 that may not be quite ready for the preschool setting. Our preschool programs are run by early childhood educators and are licensed by the State of Michigan.
Families registering their preschooler full-time* for the entire 2011-2012 school at either the Y Maple Preschool or WoodsEdge Y Preschool will receive a one year family membership. (*Full-time is 5 full days/week for the entire school year)
Families will be able to spend quality and active time together, through the year, by swimming, playing games in the gym, hitting some tennis balls or just being together. The membership may be used at both the Portage and Maple branches to make the most of the family experience. The Branches set aside time specific for families throughout the week and have special themed family nights, usually once a month. This is a great way to connect with your family and other families.
