About Us

The YMCA Active Older Adults (AOA) Program focuses on fitness, health and wellness classes, and enrichment programs such as informational talks and educational seminars. 

To foster relationship building among our Active Older Adults, we sponsor bus trips, blood pressure reading clinics, game time and a book discussion group, as well as community service projects.

The AOA members enjoy the social component which filters through all of our classes and programs. 

An AOA Advisory Committee made up of  Y members meets monthly to provide direction, insight and focus for the components of the Active Older Adults Program.

CLASS LEVELS
Beginner Level : Beginner | Intermediate Level : Intermediate | Advanced Level : Advanced

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls Beginner Level Intermediate Level Advanced Level

Come experience this award-winning program designed to reduce your fear of falling while increasing your activity levels. Interact with other adults 55+ who are concerned about falls or other hazards, while strengthening your legs, hips and ankles. This program is divided into eight-weekly, two hour sessions. Each session includes and educational component to help with problem solving, as well as an exercise session. Plan on attending all eight sessions in order to experience the maximum benefit from the program. Maximum capacity for the program is 12 participants.

Basic Conditioning for Active Seniors Beginner Level New!

Participants will be taught basic exercise methods to develop total body fitness, muscular strength, balance and cardiovascular endurance. Proper warm up, flexibility, breathing and cool down methods are included. Learn to enjoy exercise as an essential part of a great day!

Cardio Circuit Intermediate Level Advanced Level

Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. You will use hand-held weights, elastic tubing, and and exercise ball for non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises. This a SilverSneakers® class.

Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Beginner Level Intermediate Level Advanced Level

Move along with musica through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. This program uses hand-held weights, elastic tubing, resistance balls and chairs for seated and standing support. This is a SilverSneakers® class.

YogaStretch Beginner Level Intermediate Level Advanced Level

This class blends three yoga styles, creating harmony and movement for the whole body. Performed from a seated or standing position, YogaStretch is designed to increase muscular endurance, flexibility and balance, as well as to help improve your sense of well-being. A chair is used for support and exercises. Mats are not needed. This is a SilverSneakers® class.

Zumba Gold Beginner Level Intermediate Level Advanced Level New!

This class is designed for the older adult who wants to stay active, and is looking for camaraderie, excitement and fitness as a regular part of their schedule. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant. What stays the same are the elements of the party-like atmosphere, the zesty Latin music and the sheer vibrancy of each class.

Arthritis Deep Water Program

Come and learn specific range of motion exercises, which is designed to help alleviate your discomfort. The class is taught in our warm water pool and is co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation.

SilverSplash

In this class, learn to utilize the physical propertieis of water to increase agility, balance, range of motion and cardio-vascular conditioning. No swimming ability needed.
